Federal Capital Territory (FCT) FA chairman Adam Muktar Mohammed has described Morocco’s success at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar as a result of ten years planning, investments in key areas such as coaching, technical, infrastructure and player’s development as the key ingredients that is catapulting them into world reckoning.
Muktar Mohammed who also is a member of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) Task Force for Age-Group National teams opines that Morocco success can only be achieved by painstaking hard work and if Nigeria want to achieve such results the nation must be ready to invest, work hard and put in the necessary structure for football to thrive.
“Morocco prepared well for Qatar. For the past ten years, their football has been undergoing massive renovation with lots of investment in infrastructure, coaching , player’s development and several key sectors,” he said.
Muktar who also is a member of NFF congress and stakeholder in the country’s football circle believe that Nigeria can emulate Morocco and achieve success at the mundial.
“Nigeria must be ready to invest, we must set standard of global best practices. We know what to do and I’m hoping that the new NFF president Ibrahim Gusau in the saddle we’re going to head in that direction to ensure we get things right,” he said.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy visit to the Flying Eagles after their evening training Wednesday Muktar also demanded for adequate preparations for the team ahead of the U20 AFCON in Egypt next year.
The U20 AFCON will be played between February 18 and March 12 in 2023 with the top four teams going on to represent Africa at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia.
“Everything must be done to ensure the Flying Eagles are fully prepared for the U20 AFCON and that will include an extended training camp in a place with similar weather conditions like Egypt,” he said.
“Currently it’s getting cold in Egypt and by the time of the AFCON, it will be a lot colder and so the boys have to get used to such weather before the tournament begins.
“We will continue to support and motivate the team on the promise and resolve of the NFF president Ibrahim Gusau.”
Mouktar made an unannounced donation to the team to boost their morale.
