Police on Wednesday November 30, 2022 arraigned a former minister of information Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilbis before a high court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara state capital for allegedly sponsoring some thugs to cause havoc during a political rally organised by the People’s Democratic Party last Sunday.
The party’s state governorship candidate Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare was for the rally
Bilbis was invited by the Zamfara state police command Tuesday for enquiry on the allegations labeled against him by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state and was later detained.
Blueprint reports that the former minister is currently contesting to represent Zamfara central senatorial zone in the 2023 general election under PDP.
The anti-thuggery special committee established by the Zamfara state government under the chairmanship of Hon. Bello Mohammed Bakyasuwa announced that they arrested 16 PDP political thugs allegedly in connection with the alleged vandalisation of APC properties in Gusau during the rally.
However, the deputy chairman of PDP in the state Hon. Muktar Lugga while reacting to the arrest of Bilbis described it as undemocratic.
