
Rt. Rev. Aderogba, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Jebba, Kwara State, was abducted along with his wife and driver on the Oyo/Ogbomoso expressway on Sunday by suspected armed bandits.
When the event occurred, the victims were claimed to be on their way to Yewa in Ogun state.
When called, Adewale Osifeso, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the kidnapping.
However, a Vanguard investigation revealed that the abductors forced their car to come to a complete stop before being forced into another stationed vehicle.
It was also discovered that they had yet to establish contact with the abductees’ relatives.
The police image maker confirmed the occurrence and said the command has initiated a manhunt for the accused kidnappers.
“On Sunday, June 12, 2022, at approximately 2100HRS, One Rev. Adekunle Adeluwa reported to the Command through an incidented report at Atiba Divisional Police Headquarters, Oyo town, that at approximately 2030HRS, One Bishop Rt. Rev Aderogba of Jebba Diocese, Kwara State, in the company of his wife and driver, was abducted,” he said.
According to preliminary findings, the victim’s vehicle suffered what appeared to be a mechanical malfunction while going from Yewa, Ogun State to Jebba, Kwara State along the New Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway in an isolated region.
“The rescue effort, which began at 2100HRS on Sunday, June 12th, 2022, is being led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in command of the Command’s Operations.”
“All tactical units from the Command Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Puff Adder, Police Mobile Force, PMF, Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU, and Conventional Police troops, as well as local hunters and vigilantes, are all involved in the rescue operations.”
“In the meantime, a discreet investigation led by the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, is underway to ensure that the victims are recovered safely.
“By encouraging members of the public to report any suspicions to the local Police Division or formation, credible and timely information, the general public can be assured of their safety as they go about their lawful activities,” says the statement. PPRO Osifeso gave his assurance.
