The Ogun State police command on Monday paraded some suspected kidnappers arrested within the state recently.
The new Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, during his maiden press briefing at the Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, presented the suspects to newsmen.
Among the suspects were Mohammed Bentua (25 years) and Aminu Ibrahim (32 years), who were arrested on October 3, at Bode-Olude area of Abeokuta.
The Commissioner of Police explained that one Saliu Hammed had been kidnapped in his house at Temidire Opete by some gunmen, who demanded N3 million ransom.
The police at Bode-Olude in collaboration with vigilante, hunters and So-safe-corps men were said to have gone after the kidnappers and successfully rescued the victim, arresting the two suspects.
“One single-barrelled short gun, one long rope, one empty cartridge and one Opel car” were reported recovered from the suspects.
Similarly, the police, at about 3:40am nabbed one Oseni Abiola in connection with the abduction of a youth leader.
The youth leader, Olamilekan Olawale, was ambushed at Alapako, along the Lagos-Ibadan highway and got him abducted.
The “kidnappers” had contacted the victim’s family and demanded N6 million for Olawale’s release.
However, on October 8, Oseni Abiola was arrested with the victim’s Lexus 330 car when he was looking for a buyer.
“The victim was later rescued, while other members of the gang are being trailed for possible arrest,” Bankole said.
The CP assured Ogun residents that their safety will be guaranteed at all time, saying, “we are rolling out all in our Arsenal to bring crime and criminality to a barest minimum in Ogun State”
To achieve his promise of making Ogun the safest State in Nigeria, Bankole stated that he had met with all Area Commanders and tactical Squad Commanders with a mandate that they should all go out and make the state inconducive for criminals and their sponsors.
